We recently received some great photos from our customer Shiel Sexton on its use of Vela Systems for quality and work management. They're utilizing the new capabilities of Vela Field Manager (VFM), including the subcontractor portal, in interesting ways that I thought we should share.
Shiel Sexton provides VFM access at what they call a "Vela Kiosk" that's located in the job trailer. They use Vela Mobile on iPads in the field for quality and documents, and then in the trailer, they have a PC station set up that's connected to the Internet and our subcontractor portal. On any particular project, each morning someone from Shiel Sexton requests that the foreman of all of their subs come into the job trailer and do the following things in the portal:
- Mark any work they finished the day before as completed;
- Review any new work assigned to them.
According to Shiel Sexton, Vela serves as a backbone for all issues and work-to-complete items on the projects. As well, the contractors, subs, owner and architects have commented that this has made the job very efficient and helped prevent rework.
In a similar case study with our customer Rosendin Electric, project-level data is valuable and key to an overall company quality program. You'll be able to hear from Rosendin Electric executives first hand in our upcoming webinar. Since all of the issues are captured, logged and reported upon at the project level, and since they're also available in executive dashboards, these project-level efficiencies in field operations are generating important performance data for the company.
