As an IT Director with 20 years of experience working in the Construction industry, I've pretty much seen it all when it comes to software for construction. Vela Systems mobile software is an important new technology - it really changes the way construction happens in the field, saving time and improving efficiency.

Current construction software are focused on back-office tasks like cost and project management. If there are field features, they are not optimized for field use in the interface or the capabilities. Vela's suite of modules are focused specifically on field activities so they fit the needs of our job teams extremely well. Since Vela's product runs on Tablet PCs instead of awkward pocket PC devices, our field personnel find it easy to use and manage.

I like the flexibility of the platform. We can enable or disable specific modules for projects or users. Additionally, I have been able to write my own reports and pull information directly out of the database for my own purposes. Also, it is easy to get data from PrologR into Vela - the import APIs are flexible.

The support team is always just a phone call or email away. They have been very responsive as I've rolled out the system to our projects.

I use the Vela Field Report module to log my field observations and manage electronic copies of plans while I'm in the field. Before Vela Systems, I had to spend hours retyping my field reports from my handwritten notes. To bring plans into the field, I had to carry the plan sets of the parts of the building I thought I'd need to review. If I didn't bring the right sets, I was out of luck. Now, with Vela's Field Report module, I can log my observations electronically on the Tablet PC while I'm on the job and know that they're entered accurately - without any further retyping.
